Warren has recorded on over 46+ albums. Warren is currently working on a solo cd - due this year. You can listen to a live version of Warren's singing (including some original compositions) w/the Waybacks here.
When he was at Berklee, with 3 other students, their band, Blue Light Special (BLS), has released a full length CD "See You Around" and a four song EP "Sparhawk Sessions", and another four song EP in the summer of 2003, with Warren singing, Sitting on Top of the World, and playing that fabulous fiddle. Warren often gets called to sit in, jam, or play w/a variety of talented and well known musicians ranging from Lyle Lovett to local Austin artists like Toni Price. He played on Chris Wall's cd "Just Another Place" and a reviewer here noted that "of particular interest is the fiddle accompaniment from Warren Hood (yeah, Champ's boy), who's getting better and better every time he picks that thing up."
Honky Tonk Angels love Warren. On their website is a review of Warren's playing w/his BLS - here. Their tribute to Warren's father, Champ Hood is here. Video of Warren playing with his father at Texas Summer Nights (2001) is on their website here, with Warren playing fiddle in "Friend of the Devil" video here.
Another live performance recording was with his band, South Austin Jug Band, on their first album - Pickin' and Grinnin', on which he played fiddle. The South Austin Jug Band aimed to capture all the energy of a rock and roll band in an all-acoustic format. Warren played in band with the lead singer, James Hyland, for a few years prior to the SAJB. The SAJB started out as an impromptu jam at a festival, and later gelled into an all-out barnburnin' blend of old-time, bluegrass, swing, folk, and country music. That CD captured the excitement of Warren's weekly Sunday night gigs at Momo's where he and SAJB attracted a diverse and dedicated following of hipsters and rednecks, young and old. Warren's fiddle playing is sweet, sharp, and very emotive and conveys the infectious energy of this band, which won the 2002 Telluride Bluegrass Festival, playing one of Warren's composition instrumentals Old Settler's Breakdown (composed w/Matt Slusher).
The album , Pickin' & Grinnin' is out of print, a limited edition, but you can purchase online downloads from Ourtracks.com here. If interested in some of Warren's earliest recordings with SAJB members James Hyland and Willie Pipkin, please click here.
